Carrefour has opened what it calls its most modern compact hypermarket in Poland, bringing a new store concept to Comfy Park in Bydgoszcz’s Glinki district. The format is smaller than a traditional hypermarket.
The new Comfy Park store covers 3,100 square meters and carries more than 25,000 food and non-food products. That is roughly five times the selection of a typical discount store.
The hypermarket is built around a “2.0 model” that combines a reduced sales floor with a wide product range. Carrefour is aiming to offer the convenience of a compact store without giving up the depth of assortment that makes hypermarkets attractive for weekly or family shopping.
Themed shopping zones
One of the most visible changes is the store layout. Carrefour has created themed areas such as C4ndyland, which focuses on international snacks, and Active Food, which features specialty foods and dietary supplements.
The Local Products zone is also expanding, with items sourced from 36 local artisans, farmers and niche producers. Among them are Ciechocinek Health Resort, Zakłady Prosiaczek, Królewskie Wędliny and Piekuś Bakery, giving the store a stronger regional identity.
Faster checkout, greener design
The new hypermarket has wide aisles, eco-friendly décor, energy-efficient lighting and refrigeration systems, plus two reverse vending machines for deposit packaging. For checkout, Carrefour installed 14 lanes, including eight self-service checkouts, and added Scan&Go so customers can scan and pay as they shop.
Carrefour Polska operates more than 900 stores across six formats, plus an online shop, and also owns 20 shopping centers in Poland. The new Bydgoszcz opening shows how the group is adapting its physical store network to changing consumer habits.
